George C. Palmer was a 1946 graduate of Patton School
George C Palmer, age 88, of Washington, died Saturday, January 14, 2017, in Transitions Health Care. He was born June 13, 1928, in Claysville, a son of the late James and Anna Walker Palmer. He attended Claysville schools and was a 1964 (NOTE: The obituary is incorrect -- George graduated from Patton in 1946) graduate of the Patton Masonic Trade School, in Elizabethtown, PA. He served as a Corporal in the U.S. Army, in Korea, and was a carpenter and homebuilder since 1953. On October 5, 1957, he married Jacqueline Hager who preceded him in death on February 11, 1990.
Mr. Palmer was a member of Jefferson Avenue United Methodist Church, Past Master of Sunset Lodge #623 F. & A. M., Past High Priest, Washington Chapter #150 R.A.M, Washington Council #1 R. & S.M., Jacques de Molay Commandery #3, James R. Hunt Post 639 of the American Legion Claysville, Washington Lodge #776 B. P. O. E., and the Arms Club.
For many years after retiring, he read to the kindergarten classes at Rainbow’s End Daycare where he was known as Mr. P. George loved playing golf, and for many years he was “Santa” for many organizations in the area.
Surviving are a son, David B. (Lynn) Palmer, of Pearland, TX; a daughter, Kathleen (Ed) Hennen, of Felton, DE; a sister, Anna Palmer of Claysville; four grandchildren, Brett D. Buckley, Jordan L. Palmer, Stephanie J. Buckley and Alexander W. Palmer, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Deceased are a brother, James Palmer and a sister, Mary L. Palmer.
Friends will be received Tuesday from 6 to 8 PM in the Piatt and Barnhill Funeral Home, 420 Locust Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, January 18, 2017, with Reverend Ross Pryor officiating. Interment will follow in Washington cemetery. Military rites will afforded by Hunt Kennedy Post 639 of the Claysville American Legion.
