Thomas E. Glidden was a 1942 graduate of Patton School

Thomas E. Glidden, Sr., 88, of Elizabethtown, formerly of Bensalem, PA, passed away on Monday, July 9, 2012 at Hospice of Lancaster, Mount Joy. Born in Wilkes-Barre, he was the son of late Stanley T. and Mary (Evans) Glidden. He was the husband of Loraine G. (Fitzwater) Glidden of Masonic Village, Elizabethtown. They were married for 69 years on January 16th.

Tom was a graduate of the Patton School at Masonic Village. He retired from Philadelphia Electric in 1979 as the Director of Training. While living in Bensalem, Tom was a member of St. Stephens United Church of Christ. He was a Lay Minister for over 35 years, was ordained an elder and served as Sunday school superintendent. Presently, Tom was a member of Sell Chapel at Masonic Village, where he wrote and narrated the Christmas program for the Men’s Chorus. He was a member of Abraham C. Treichler Lodge #682, F&AM, Elizabethtown, Lancaster Lodge of Perfection, Harrisburg Consistory and High Twelve. He was also a Grand Lodge of Pennsylvania Master Masonic Scholar, which he earned while in his early 80’s.

Tom was a US Army veteran of WWII.

In addition to his wife Loraine, he is survived by four children: Thomas, Jr., husband of Anne Glidden, Mount Joy; David, husband of Judi Glidden, Alton, NH; Brenda, wife of Robert Lyter, Gettysburg and Diane, wife of Richard Cunicelli, Pembroke Pines, FL; 13 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.

Tom was preceded in death by a brother James and two sisters, Jean and Catherine.

A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, July 11, 2012 at the John S. Sell Memorial Chapel, Masonic Village, Elizabethtown at 3:00 PM. Friends may call at the chapel from 2:00-3:00 PM. Interment with Military Honors will take place in Mount Tunnel Cemetery, Elizabethtown.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Tom’s memory to Masonic Village, Office of Gift Planning, One Masonic Drive, Elizabethtown, PA 17022.
