Bowman, Richard L.

Richard L. Bowman was a resident of the Children's Homes from May 1940 to September 1944 and is a 1947 graduate of Patton School

Richard L. Bowman, age 93, of Atco, NJ, passed away on September 6, 2022. He was born in Roslyn, PA to the late Linton and Margaret (nee Werner) Bowman. Richard was orphaned at a young age and grew up in the Mason Home Orphanage, and Patton School. Later in life, he became a member of the Masonic Solomon Lodge 3 in Philadelphia, PA. Richard was also member of LuLu Shriners International, The Shriners Legion of Honor unit, and the Loyal Order of the Moose (Lindenwold).

Richard proudly served his country in the US Navy. He worked as an engineer for Bell Telephone Company for 38 years before retiring. Once retired, Richard and his wife, lovingly known as “Dick and Jane,” became world travelers and visited 13 countries. When not traveling, Richard enjoyed keeping himself busy with tinkering, camping with “The Piney’s,” A-Liner camping, attending folk festivals, and playing in the mud with hippies. The Philadelphia Folk Festival, Falcon Ridge, and Camp Jam in The Pines ranked among his favorites. Most of all, Richard will be remembered for his generosity, his wisdom, and his kindness. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

Life on their old farm homestead from the 60’s was legendary. The simplest of things were the best of times, and the stories live on in the hearts of his remaining family.

Richard is predeceased by his beloved wife, Jane Bowman and son, Richard A. Bowman.

He is survived by his children, Gary R. Bowman (Sharon), Susan J. Loving (Paul), Curtis W. Bowman (Susan), and Lianne Ciocco (Jody); daughter in law, Heidi Bowman; grandchildren, Sheri, Brittany, Christopher, and Michelle Bowman, Abby, Aimee, and Matthew Loving, Jennifer Bowman, Joe, Josh, Julian, and Jordan Ciocco; 6 great grandchildren; and his siblings, David Bowman (Donna), Lois Gradel, and Janet Young. Many many nieces, nephews and treasured friends were dear to him as well, too many to name.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his visitation on Saturday, September 24, 2022 from 11am-12pm at LeRoy P. Wooster Funeral Home & Crematory, located at 441 White Horse Pike, Atco, NJ 08004. A memorial service will begin at 12pm at the funeral home. A celebration of life luncheon will follow afterward.
