John R. Fosnot, 84, of Elizabethtown, passed away on Friday, September 27, 2024 at The Middletown Home. Born in Chester, PA, he was the son of the late Clyde and Sadie Fosnot. John was the husband of Peggy (Heigel) Fosnot with whom he celebrated 60 years of marriage this past August 1st.
John was a graduate of the Patton Trade School in Elizabethtown class of 1958. He proudly served in the United States Army. John retired from Armstrong World Industries as a supervisor. A Free and Accepted Mason, he was a member of the Abraham C. Triechler Lodge No. 682, F&AM. John was also a member of the Lancaster Lodge of Perfection and the Harrisburg Consistory. John enjoyed playing golf.
The Elizabethtown Boys/Bears Club quite possibly would not exist without the hard work and dedication of John Fosnot. John held various roles within EBC. His “old school” style coaching motivated many on both the football and baseball fields for nearly 40 years. John also spent 34 years as the Treasurer of EBC bringing an almost bankrupt organization back to life. He was known for being frugal, handling the money as if it were his own. He trusted few but helped many.
Both John and Peggy, brought success to the Poplar Street concession stand. They put in an infinite number of hours organizing, working and restocking the stand while taking the time to ensure the best pricing from both local businesses and larger clubs. John was also known for organizing several long-standing fundraising events such as Bowlarama, Golf Tournaments, and Memorial Day Chicken BBQ. These events lasted 10, 25, 35 years respectively. John had a lasting impact on the players he coached, the board members he has served with and the businesses of Elizabethtown area. The youth of Elizabethtown will continue to benefit from John’s contribution, and he was an amazing team player!
Surviving in addition to his wife, Peggy, are two children, John Fosnot, fiancé of Pamela Lechner of Marietta and James Fosnot, husband of Holly of Lewisburg; two grandchildren, Abby and John Eric Fosnot; and four step-grandchildren, Addison Klock, Chloe Kauffman, and Dylan and Ashley Lechner.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Gary Thorsen.
