T. David "Dave" Lightner was a 1975 gratuate of Patton School

THOMPSONTOWN - T. David "Dave" Lightner, 57, of Dewey Hill, Thompsontown, passed on to his eternal reward on Saturday, Nov. 23, 2013, at his home, surrounded by his family and friends.

Born Feb. 1, 1956, in Harrisburg, he was the son of the late Herbert M. and Mary E. (Gross) Lightner.

He is survived by: his wife of 25 years, Cathy A. (Hower) Lightner; six sons, Herbert Lightner and wife, Rachel, Thomas Lightner and wife, Nailyn, Toby Burris and wife, Alice, Tim Burris and wife, Ashley, Dale Lightner and wife, Tasha, and Travis Burris; and was blessed with 11 grandchildren, Aaliyah, Hope, Kaitlyn, Kiersta, Christian, Tristian, Lily, Kadence, Dale Jr., Alyssa and Breeonna.

He attended East Juniata High School and graduated from Patton Masonic School, Elizabethtown.

He was a self-made, strong man. He worked in many trades such as construction, heavy equipment operator, logger, cook, mechanic and owner of Centre Garage. He was also known for his butchering skills.

He was a member of American Legion Post #364 and a life member of J. E. Bowen Jr. AmVets Post #122. He was also a member of Tennis Masonic Lodge #371 F&AM.

Dave had a great love for the land on Dewey Hill. Some of his hobbies included hunting, fishing, caring for and cleaning cast iron pans and collecting unique artifacts.

A celebration of life service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 30, 2013, at New Life Assembly of God Church, 1578 Cedar Springs Road, Mifflintown, with the Rev. Luke Landis officiating. Although there will be no viewing, the family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, at the church.

After the memorial service, family and friends are invited to gather for a meal at the pavilion at the Dewey Hill Camp.

The family will provide all flowers and requests that memorial contributions be made to Guss Funeral Home Inc., 20 S. Third St., Mifflintown, PA 17059 to help with the final expenses.
